Kritika Kamra on quitting television and her equation with Kitani Mohabbat Hai co-star Karan Kundrra
Once a household name on Indian television, Kritika Kamra has been busy with films and web shows over the past few years. With projects like Gyaarah Gyaarah and Tandav under her belt, the actress credits her years on television sets for shaping her craft and work ethic. Reflecting on her journey, Kritika says, “My TV experience has definitely come in handy. The principles of screen acting are more or less the same everywhere. The technical bits don’t change. In fact, TV is a great training ground. The way TV actors can do lines on the spot, I challenge anyone else to do that. To be able to hit the mark, to improvise in no time within a minimal number of takes is the strength of a TV actor. TV is a volume game. It’s quantity over quality, so you are doing so much every day you are bound to get better. Television actors are producers’ actors.”
‘I feel I saw some of the best times of TV’
Ask the Kuch Toh Log Kahenge actress if she misses the kind of stardom she experienced during her TV days — particularly the popularity that came with Kitani Mohabbat Hai, and she says, “I feel lucky that even today so many people come up to me and say we used to watch you on that show. I still get a lot of love for my work on television and which is why I never disowned it. I wear it very proudly. TV has made me who I am and people still remember my shows. I don’t miss it (the stardom) because I have seen the best of it. It happened to me when I was very young.”
'Actors are creative nomads'
As she fondly recalls her breakout show, which starred Karan Kundrra, we ask her if she’s still in touch with her former co-star, who she was linked to. Kritika shares, “Actors are creative nomads. Often you are shooting for a particular project and you get really close with people, but then life takes you in different directions. I am very attached when I am doing something and I will always have love and respect for people I have worked with before. But then over a period of time people can go their own ways that is what ‘adult friendships’ are all about. They get over. And we have to get over that fact.”Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the latest Hindi movies, upcoming Hindi movies in 2026 , and Telugu movies.”
