The three-day lit fest, being organised under the aegis of the Lucknow Mahotsav this year as well, kick-starts on November 27 For the second year in a row, the Lucknow Literature Carnival (LLC) will be a part of the Lucknow Mahotsav. Scheduled for later this month, this year’s event will be dedicated to Hindi writer Amritlal Nagar. This is the birth centenary year of the author, who traces his roots to Lucknow.
But the biggest attraction at the LLC this year is likely to be the presence of Bollywood actor Imran Khan, who will be in the city on November 22 as part of the women empowerment campaign than he supports.

The campaign is aimed at creating awareness among adolescent boys and Imran Khan is a good role model for them,” says Kanak Rekha Chauhan, the founder director of the Lucknow Literature Carnival. She further adds, “This will be a prelude to the carnival, which will begin later on November 27.” Last year, Madhuri Dixit Nene was present in the city for the LLC’s prelude event. The festival will have a day dedicated to Amritlal Nagar along with other known Hindi litterateurs including Bhagwati Charan Verma and Yashpal. “We are laying more stress on Hindi this year because, we are, after all, a Hindi-speaking state,” says Chauhan. With the aim to attract and involve more youth a lot of youth centric activities have also been planned in the carnival. “We are going to have story and poetry writing competitions in a few schools and colleges of the city to engage the youth in the Literature Carnival,” informs Chauhan.
“We are also going to organise a photography contest also for the youth to participate in,” adds Chauhan, “Well-known theatre actors Shernaz Patel and Rajit Kapoor have been invited to conduct workshops in theatre with the youth. Lucknowiter and writer Atul Tiwari, who’s been associated with us right from the start, will be conducting workshops in script-writing.” There are few changes in the organisation of the cultural programmes at the carnival this year, where instead of one event, the evenings will feature five different short English plays based on short stories. Among other known faces at the carnival this time will also be bestselling author Amish Tripathi. Popular Bollywood writer Swanand Kirkire will be there for the Hindi poetry session. Also participating in the sessions at LLC will be authors Achala Nagar, Aakar Patel, Keki Daruwala, Ashok Bajpai and Mrinal Pandey among others. The organisers are also trying to rope in Gulzar.
