The press conference for Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? started with a good round of laughter. A journo asked the actors if the film was inspired from a Hollywood short film, Tum Kab Jaoge, to which Ajay Devgn retorted, “A Hollywood film with that name, I don’t think so!”
Director Ashwni Dhir stepped in, saying, “The film isn’t inspired by any Bollywood or Hollywood movie.But, the title is. I had read a poem by Sharad Joshi called Tum Kab Jaoge, Atithi? which I felt completely described the film, so I used it as the title.”
ATITHI DEVO BHAV? Ajay said, “This is a movie that talks about the adage, atithi devo bhav, but then it also talks about how in today’s day and age, if the atithi plonks himself in your house, how he/she turns from a devta into a devil!” When the actors were asked to share similar experiences, Paresh Rawal said, “It has never happened to me. But, even if it does, main wapis uske ghar jakar sara badla nikaal lunga!” While Ajay said, “I hope I never have such a guest.”
KABHI SERIOUS, KABHI COMIC: When Paresh was asked how he manages to play serious and comic roles back to back, he said, “Mera kaam hi hai manage karna, aur phir director ka saath bhi hota hai. Waise bhi, mera theatre ka background hai na. Jo role accha likha ho, challenging ho aur use karne se pehle dar lage, wohi sab se achcha role hota hai, kyunki wohi dar aapko motivate karta hai.” Ajay said, “We even did this comedy very seriously. We did have a lot of fun filming the funny scenes.” On doing a comic caper, Konkona Sen Sharma said, “There’s nothing different about filming a comedy.”
ACTOR BANI PRODUCER, HOW? Amita Pathak, who was last seen in the movie Haal-e-dil, has turned producer with this flick, but she isn’t hanging up her acting shoes. “I’m still going to act. I wanted to produce this movie because I’ve been through a similar situation. We had a guest who stayed with us for more than six months. My brother suggested we do something on this and so here we are.”
