Harsh Mayar's on a high
Actor Harsh Mayar is on a high, and we mean this quite literally. A national award for the Best Actor in Child Artiste category, and some more national and international recognitions later, we wonder what does Harsh Mayar, the 13-year-old precocious star of "I Am Kalam", whose journey from the slums of Delhi onto the silver screen has become stuff of legends, has benefited? And surprisingly, or perhaps not, he says it's the fact that he can now take his family around the world.
1x1 polls
"Mere papa mere saath Amsterdam gaye the," he says and grins, talking about the cinekid festival that happens there for which his debut was screened as the Audience Choice film. Even in Lucknow, where Harsh had come to attend an event, he was accompanied by an elder cousin, Sachin, and was justifiably pleased about it. "People from my family hardly travelled before. I am just so happy that now they are able to see places other than Delhi," he smiles and adds, "But abhi mummy ke liye to sabse badi surprise hai. I will take her with me to London, the Buckingham Palace." Reportedly, the film caught the attention of the English royalty, and while the paperwork is still to be completed, the foundation that has produced the film says they plan to travel with the film and its cast to London soon.
Idol TalkWorld recognition may be a big thing but for Harsh a trip to the famed Madame Tussauds is clearly the high point. After all, it has the wax statue of his idol, Justin Bieber. "See, mera haircut bhi unke jaisa hai," he laughs, ruffling his long locks and adds, "I just love Justin, he's so cool! I have his songs everywhere." And equally excited is the young boy at having had a chance to meet his other idol, Remo D'Souza, the choreographer, in person. "Remo sir mujhe bahut achche lagte hain. I just love the way he dances. Maine DID-4 mein jaane ki koshish bhi ki thi, but failed the auditions," says Harsh, agreeing that he is willing to give TV a second chance. "Usme har roz log dekh paayenge mujhe," smiles he, not entirely in jest. Clearly, this is one star not yet tired of living life onscreen.
