Happy Birthday Sushant Singh Rajput: Revisiting the best performances of the late actor

Sushant Singh Rajput might have have had a tragic end to his life, but the actor, through the course of his almost decade long career, gave some memorable performances on screen. As the actor posthumously celebrates what would have been his 37th birthday today, here's taking a look at some of his most memorable acts on screen...

In his debut movie Kai Po Che!, based on the novel The 3 Mistakes of My Life by Chetan Bhagat, Sushant played Ishaan Bhatt, a district-level cricketer who becomes a victim of politics in the selection fraternity. Along with other leads Amit Sadh and Rajkummar Rao, the actor gave one of the most earnest performances of his career, garnering huge acclaim.

Stepping into the shoes of the swashbuckling former Indian cricket captain is no mean feat, yet Sushant breathed in such life into the character that the lines between reality and fiction kept on blurring. As Sushant portrayed the trials and tribulations of MS Dhoni on screen, his own persona faded in the background as we could only see the cricketer on screen. The movie also starred Kiara Advani and Disha Patani.

Based on the Indian-Bengali fictional detective created by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay, the movie charts the journey of Detective Byomkesh as he fresh out of college, agrees to investigate the disappearance of Bhuvan, a chemist. Soon he discovers a larger conspiracy, that threatens to upend Kolkata. The movie, though commercially unsuccessful remains one of the best performances of the actor.

The movie, set in a rural background is about a group of dacoits, who split up when their leader is killed. While on a running spree, they encounter Indumati and Khushi, who are being chased by the former's family to be killed. Apart from Sushant, the movie co-starred Manoj Bajpayee, Bhumi Pednekar, Ashutosh Rana and Ranvir Shorey.

In this romantic drama, Sushant plays Mansoor, a Muslim porter who has been ferrying Kedarnath pilgrims for years. After being pursued by Mukku, the rebellious daughter of a Hindu priest, he slowly warms upto her, but their union is marred by religious differences and a natural disaster. The movie marked Sara Ali Khan's debut in Bollywood and is known for its soothing music and heartfelt story.

Though this might not be one of Sushant's best work, it remains special as it was his last appearance on screen. A remake of the The Fault in Our Stars, the movie saw Sushant star as jovial youngster Manny, in remission after Cancer. He falls in love with another cancer patient Kizie and the duo navigate life together, that is until Manny's cancer turns terminal. The movie marked the Bollywood debut of Sanjana Sanghi, as a leading female lead.
