Happy Birthday, Ranbir Kapoor: Under-appreciated characters played by the actor

Bollywood stalwarts Rishi and Neetu Kapoor's son Ranbir Kapoor, who has proved his mantle as one of Bollywood best actors, turns a year older today and fans have created has created a stir on social media with birthday wishes for their favourite superstar. Ranbir's career graph might see a lot of ups and downs, flops and hits but the actor has delivered several under-appreciated characters on the celluloid.

Apart from his personal life which has been the talk of the town for various reasons, Ranbir's professional life is an inspiration for all newcomers as well as aspiring artists.

The super-hit director-actor pair of Imtiaz Ali and Ranbir gave one of the most ambitious projects 'Rockstar' wherein RK played the role of a Janardhan Jakhar aka Jordan. While the film revolves around the Ranbir's character fulfilling his dream of becoming a rockstar like his role model Jim Morrison. But at the same time, it also showcases the emotional turmoil he has to face due to his love Heer's(Nargis Fakhri) illness. 'Rockstar' might have received mixed reactions from the audience but Ranbir's brilliant portrayal opened up many opportunities in his career.

This Imtiaz Ali directorial which even featured Ranbir's ex-girlfriend Deepika Padukone opposite him might have failed to impress the audience. But his character of Ved Vardhan Sahni managed to catch the essence of a residual mental disorder person and Ranbir has left no stone unturned in acing this role.

Prakash Jha's political thriller 'Raajneeti' featured Ranbir in a never seen before avatar. The film was dragged in a few controversies due to similarities between real-life people and the characters showcased in the film. With the presence of powerhouses like Manoj Bajpayee, Ajay Devgn, Nana Patekar and others RK managed to make his screen presence felt on the screen.

Ranbir essayed the character of a mysterious art thief in Vikramjit Singh's romantic thriller 'Roy' which even featured Arjun Rampal and Jacqueline Fernandez in pivotal roles. The film failed to lure the audience to the theatres due to a weak storyline but RK managed to excel in the limited screen presence and made this film his own.

The character of Siddharth Mehra aka Sid portrayed by Ranbir in Ayan Mukerji's 'Wake Up Sid' is popular amongst the teenagers due to his connect and the reality of what a college student goes through post completing their degree. The film was well appreciated by critics and audience but Ranbir's character was under-appreciated in terms of his other performances on the silver screen.
