Esha Deol on being compared to Dharmendra and Hema Malini: 'My parents never gave me unwanted advice'
Esha Deol, who is the daughter of veteran superstars Hema Malini and Dharmendra, gained widespread recognition for her role in ‘Dhoom’. Recently, the actress talked about shooting ‘Dhoom’ and what advice her family gave her when she began her acting career.
During an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Esha was asked what advice her family gave her when she began her acting career in the film industry. To which, Esha replied, “Advice came gradually to me. When you face issues you go to your parents, and that’s when you get advice. My parents never gave me unwanted advice. I would go to them with issues and problems. That’s when I remember that the comparison had started, with my mom.”
She added that especially because of being a woman, she found that her first movie was compared. Her mother, who had appeared in over 200 films, advised her during a conversation that if she chooses to remain in the industry, such comparisons would be inevitable. It is crucial not to allow these comparisons to impact one's work. If you are truly passionate about your profession, you must strive to remain unaffected by external judgments. Her mother encouraged her to continue in the industry, provided she could manage to maintain this perspective.
Esha further talked about magazine culture and representation and said, “There were a couple of times there were rumours, mostly link-ups with my co-stars. That was a constant. And there were comparisons with my parents. There was a phase, where I was called the wild child. And yes these have been very much constant throughout my career.”
The actress also opened up about wearing bikinis in Bollywood films. She revealed, “The trend started after Dhoom, when actresses would flaunt their beautiful curves. I feel if you know it is shot nice, aesthetically pleasing then it cannot go wrong.”
Esha also talked about the difference between looking vulgar and gracious and shared that there is a very thin line between them. She continued, “It’s a dangerous thin line. You have to know how to play it well and the people around you whom you’re trusting have to be totally trusted. That it’s going to be shot where it looks gracious and pleasing to the eyes. “
On the work front, Esha Deol was last seen alongside Suniel Shetty in the web series ‘Hunter’.
