Its strange how some things fall into place. It was just a couple of weeks ago that I connected with Aarti Verma over the internet and she managed to convince me to support the NGO Friendicoes SECA by running in the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon as a Dream Teamer. My involvement would be a commitment of a minimum of Rs 1 lakh towards their cause and of course, raising awareness about the good work they have been doing.
I was a bit skeptical at the beginning, but once I realised the potential of the huge platform the worlds most prestigious half marathon provides for people desirous of raising money towards charity, I was confident of not only fulfilling my commitment to the NGO but surpassing it by far.
Friendicoes works selflessly for the animals and Id like to use this oppurtunity to appeal to the people to come forward and support causes of their choice. While monetary support is always welcome, the success of an NGO depends directly on the number of people who support and work for it, mainly because the issues at hand are humongous and difficult to tackle.
Its my endeavour in the leadup to the event on November 1 to reach out to as many people as possible. There cannot be a better platform than this, which brings to our country the best running talent from around the world, promotes the tenets that govern a healthy lifestyle, and also encourages us to recognise and understand our giving side. Having said that, I am thoroughly excited about being in Delhi on November 1. Ive been training to run the half marathon in Mumbai in January and this will be the perfect opportunity to test my preparedness. Ive always been an avid sportsman in my school and college days, though I never ran seriously. Now, running is a regular part of my routine.
Id like to take this opportunity to make an appeal to the community to join hands with me to make our society a better place to live in.
