Despite no big release, 2019 has been a profitable year for Bollywood

Bollywood’s big stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma kept themselves away from the silver screen this year. Despite having no release from these big stars, films like ‘War’, ‘Kabir Singh’, ‘Bharat’, Saaho’, ‘Housefull 4’ and ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ together managed to pull off approximately a whopping of Rs 1364 crore at the box-office.

While the year saw no release from big stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma, Aamir Khan, Deepika Padukone, for actors like Hrithik Roshan, Shahid Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, and Ayushmann Khurrana, it turned out to be a total game-changer.

We give you a rundown of film that lured the audience to the theatres and made a record collection at the box-office.

2/9

‘War’

After keeping himself away from the silver screen for about two and a half years, Hrithik Roshan came back with a bang in 2019 with his ambitious project ‘Super 30’. The film surpassed expectations when it grossed Rs 147 crore at the box-office.

His second release this year was ‘War’ where he was seen sharing screen space with Tiger Shroff who considers Hrithik his mentor. Apart from the fact that it was a treat for their fans to watch the two handsome actors together in action, the film broke all records at the box-office. By collecting Rs 292 crore nett, the film became the top grosser of 2019.

3/9

‘Kabir Singh’

The Shahid Kapoor starrer ‘Kabir Singh’ was the official remake of hit Telugu movie ‘Arjun Reddy’. The film originally starred Vijay Deverakonda in the lead role. Although the film received negative reviews from most of the critics in the country for its alleged ‘misogynistic’ content, the film made record collection at the box-office.

The Shahid and Kiara Advani starrer collected a mammoth of Rs 276.34 crore in its lifetime at the box-office. Shahid also became one of the top paid stars in Bollywood.

4/9

‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’

Although Vicky Kaushal is only a few films old, the actor has become one of the most bankable actors we have in Bollywood. After impressing one and all with his films like, ‘Raazi’ and ‘Sanju’, last year, Vicky won the heart of his fans yet again with ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ this year. The film not only garnered positive reviews but also collected Rs 244 crore at the box-office.

Vicky Kaushal also won the National Film Award for Best Actor category for the film.

5/9

‘Bharat’

While Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan kept themselves away from the silver screen this year, Salman Khan took over the box-office without any opposition with his most ambitious film, ‘Bharat’. The film also starred Katrina Kaif and Disha Patani in the movie.

The Salman Khan starrer received positive reviews from the audience and the critics alike. The film also grossed Rs 197 crore nett at the box-office.

The film was widely loved by the audience and also received rave reviews by the critics as well. The Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor starrer collected Rs 148.84 crore at the box-office.

‘Dabangg 3’

After ‘Bharat’, Salman Khan’s ‘Dabangg 3’ has become another saviour of the year. The movie stars Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, South Superstar Sudeep and debutant Saiee Manjrekar in the lead roles.

‘Dabangg 3’ recorded the first fourth highest weekend of the year after ‘War’, ‘Bharat’ and ‘Saaho’. There has been no 100 crore nett in the first three days and that was the target for Dabangg 3 but it has fallen short, majorly because of the social-political scenario in the country.
