David Dhawan talks about Govinda coming late on the sets: 'I was the only one who handled him very well'
For decades, Govinda and David Dhawan have been a dynamic duo, delivering classics like 'Raja Babu', 'Haseena Maan Jaayegi', 'Hero No. 1', and 'Partner'. Their on-screen magic and humor have delighted audiences time and again.
In a recent appearance on The Invincibles season 2 show on Bollywood Bubble, Dhawan shared insights into their collaboration, hailing Govinda as the 'King of Improvisation.'
On The Invincibles show, the director discussed his unique working style with Govinda, revealing that the actor's improvisational skills greatly enhanced their films. Dhawan explained that they had a special way of communicating, where Govinda would often offer to shoot lengthy scenes in one continuous shot, allowing Dhawan to trim it later. This method contributed to the seamless humor and flow in their iconic movies.
Dhawan mentioned working with Govinda on 17 films, emphasizing that he managed the actor well, attributing it to mutual respect and love. When Arbaaz Khan noted that Govinda was known for arriving late on other sets, Dhawan responded, implying that despite any delays, their work was always completed successfully.
The ace filmmaker also shared an interesting story about how Salman Khan and Govinda were cast together in Partner. Dhawan mentioned that he approached Sohail Khan with the idea of casting both actors, and Sohail was immediately supportive. Initially, Salman was hesitant, but Dhawan persuaded him, emphasizing the potential of the collaboration. Eventually, Salman agreed, and they filmed the movie successfully, creating memorable on-screen chemistry and bromance that fans loved.
