‘Chhalaang’ to ‘Taare Zameen Par’: 5 Times Bollywood allowed us to travel back to school days

If we are ever gifted with a time machine, travelling back to the school days is one of those ardent desires most of us have. It’s not just a fantasy, school days are an emotion. From sharing tiffin boxes, eagerly waiting for PT classes, to forming teams and groups, we have so many treasured memories worth cherishing with our loved ones. Bollywood has done its bit by crafting stories, which often reflect such moments from our school days. These movies crack us up with moments of nostalgia and make us smile. While scrolling through our photo albums today, we came across these beautiful movies, which allowed us to relate to our precious childhood moments from school.

Chhalaang

The story completely allows us to relive memories from one of the most loved classes from our school - PT (Physical Training). In the movie, Rajkummar Rao portrays a character of a PT Teacher - Montu who gets the determination to train his kids for the inter-house competition. It’s true that watching the kids perform, train and practice felt like being gifted with moments of nostalgia. Helmed by Hansal Mehta, the movie also starred Nushrratt Bharuccha, and Mohammed Zeeshan in pivotal characters.

Stanley Ka Dabba

Helmed by Amole Gupte, the story revolves around the favourite time of our school days - the lunch break, where kids share their tiffin boxes. Well, the twist here is that a boy named Stanley (Partho Gupte) does not carry his lunch, which is observed by one of the teachers who forces kids to share their food with him. He soon humiliates Stanley and warns him about bringing a lunch box if he wants to attend school.

Taare Zameen Par

One of the most aww-dorable movies, ‘Taare Zameen Par’ has a special place in everyone’s heart. Right from delivering an important message of ‘every child is special’ to normalising a disorder like ‘dyslexia’, the movie is full of emotions. The story revolves around an 8-year-old boy Ishaan (Darsheel Safary), who is sent to a boarding school after being misunderstood by his parents for his dyslexia. Soon, an art teacher Ram Shankar ( Aamir Khan ) guides him to overcome his struggles dealing with the same. Helmed by Aamir Khan, the movie also starred Tisca Chopra and Vipin Sharma in pivotal characters.

5/6

Hichki

Helmed by Siddharth P Malhotra, Hichki revolves around the story of a teacher portrayed by Rani Mukerji with Tourette Syndrome, who turns this weakness into her biggest strength by teaching a group of underprivileged kids from an elite school. Adapted from Brad Cohen's 2005 autobiography ‘Front of the Class: How Tourette Syndrome Made Me the Teacher I Never Had’, the movie is extremely special and endearing to every movie lover. The movie also stars Rohit Saraf, Neeraj Kabi and late actor Asif Basra in pivotal characters.

Bhoothnath

Remember forming groups in school and messing up with the principal? Banku (Aman Siddiqui) and Jojo who are the perfect examples of squad leaders, pull off such stunts with perfection. Every 90s kid has grown up watching the film on repeat. Even though the story primarily revolved around a haunted house, a major part of the film depicted our school lives. Helmed by Vivek Sharma, the movie also starred Amitabh Bachchan and Juhi Chawla in lead roles.
