‘Call Me Bae’ actor Ananya Panday reacts to being compared to Kareena Kapoor’s Poo: ‘If Bae can be even one percent as lovable as Poo, then…’
Ananya Panday’s debut web show ‘Call Me Bae’ got released earlier this month, and the actress has been making headlines ever since then. She plays the role of Bae aka Bella Chawdhary, who goes from riches to rags, and is trying to build her identity in the city of Mumbai. Ever since the launch of the series, the audiences have been comparing her character Bae to the iconic Poo, played by Kareen Kapoor in ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’.
In a recent interview with Instant Bollywood, Ananya was asked about Karan Johar’s comment at the show's trailer launch, which implied that her character, Bae, might be considered a modern take on Poo. Ananya expressed that her team was not trying to replicate or even approach what Kareena Kapoor did. She added that Kareena is a literal icon and her portrayal of Poo is a legacy. Ananya also expressed that what Kareena did was ‘extraordinary’. She added that Bae is their ‘homage’ to Kareena. Ananya further added that if Bae can be even one percent as lovable as Poo, then the whole team will be happy!
‘Call Me Bae’ is streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The ETimes review of Ananya's new series 'Call Me Bae' states that the drama is "A stylish comedy-drama that stands out by frequently mocking its own absurdities, adding an element of self-aware humour. While the show boasts strong performances and high production values, it doesn’t offer much in the way of new storytelling. Fans of the genre will likely enjoy the ride, but those seeking something fresh may find the series a bit too familiar. Ananya Panday shines as Bella, delivering a relatable performance that anchors the show. Her portrayal of a character who is both vulnerable and stubborn adds depth to the series, making Call Me Bae a guilty pleasure.”
