‘Brahmastra’, ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’, Housefull 3’: Films that minted money despite bad reviews

Filmmakers and actors aim for good reviews from the critics and the audience after their film is released in the theatres. However, more than the reviews, it is the box office numbers that determine the fate of the film. Although the two are expected to go hand-in-hand, there have been times when the reviews and collection of the film have been quite contrasting, the recent example being Ayan Mukerji’s ‘Brahmastra’. Despite mixed reviews, the Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor starrer has been receiving a lot of love from their fans at the box office. Here’s taking a look at films that went on to make some record-breaking business at the box office despite bad reviews.

Although the movie received mixed reviews from the critics, the film went on to do a business of Rs 267 crore at the box office. ‘Housefull 3’

The third instalment of the popular multi-starrer comedy franchise, ‘Housefull’ received criticism in the movie reviews. The film, however, still managed to pull the audience to the theatres. It collected Rs 108 crore at the box office despite bad reviews. ‘Housefull 3’ starred Akshay Kumar, Lisa Haydon, Riteish Deshmukh, Nargis Fakhri, Jacqueline Fernandez and Abhishek Bachchan in lead roles.

‘Judwaa 2’

Filmmaker David Dhawan’s official remake of ‘Judwaa’ starred Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez and Taapsee Pannu in the lead roles. While the songs from the original ‘Judwaa’ starring Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor and Rambha topped the music charts, the film received mixed reviews from the critics. However, fans enjoyed the commercial entertainer. Despite bad reviews, it went on to reportedly collect Rs 169 crore at the box office.

‘Son of Sardaar’

‘Son of Sardaar’ marked Ajay Devgn’s return to the action genre after a long time. The film also starred Sonakshi Sinha in the lead role. The professional film critiques can be wrong sometimes. Others are always biased and just are not worth the time.
