Brahmastra, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sanju: Bollywood blockbusters that belong to the 100 crore weekend club

Things are finally looking up for Bollywood, with the industry recording yet another big hit this year in the form of ‘Brahmastra’. After the success of ‘The Kashmir Files’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’, a dry spell hit theatres, which has been revived by this Ayan Mukerji directorial. ‘Brahmastra’ has entered the coveted 100 crore club with its opening weekend, take a look at other biggies who are part of this league.

Brahmastra

Ranbir Kapoor has safely landed yet another entry in the 100 crore weekend club. ‘Brahmastra’ is being hailed for its VFX and audiences are turning up in huge numbers in theatres. The film earned Rs 31 crore on its opening day, and followed up with Rs 35.50 crore on day two. ‘Brahmastra’ concluded its weekend run with a whopping Rs 40 crore plus on Sunday and earned a spot in the 100 crore weekend club.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Tiger Zinda Hai

Salman Khan is known for his blockbuster festive releases, many of which have made it to the 100 crore weekend club. Kabir Khan directed ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, which released during Eid in 2015, earned Rs 101 crore in its opening weekend. While their another collaboration, ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ (2017), raked in Rs 114 crore during its Christmas weekend release. Interestingly, Salman Khan starrer ‘Sultan’, which hit the screens in 2016, clocked Rs 105 crore at the end of its five-day extended opening weekend.

Dangal

Aamir Khan starrer ‘Dangal’ earned him a spot in the coveted 100 crore weekend club. This actor stuck to his lucky Christmas weekend and released ‘Dangal’ in 2016, which earned Rs 104 crore during its opening weekend. Aamir Khan’s performance and onscreen transformation in this sports drama was hailed by the audience.

Sanju

Before ‘Brahmastra’ struck gold at the box office, Ranbir Kapoor had entered the 100 crore weekend club with his 2018 release ‘Sanju’. The film raked in the phenomenal figure of Rs 119 crore, at the end of its three-day weekend. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, ‘Sanju’ traced the life of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt and highlighted his tryst with drugs, his family life and his controversial association to the 1993 Bombay bombings. The film also gave an insight into his arrest, life in jail and comeback in films.
