‘Border 2’ star Varun Dhawan receives special shoutout from real life hero Hoshiar Singh Dahiya’s granddaughter: 'Proud moment'

Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty are set to share screen space in their upcoming film 'Border 2'. According to the teaser of the film, it has been inspired by true events. Varun's character is based on a real-life soldier, PVC Hoshiyar Singh Dahiya, and now, he got a shoutout from the granddaughter of the war hero.

The producer of the film, Nidhi Dutta, took to her Instagram Stories to share a video of Varun Dhawan sharing his thoughts at the teaser launch event. Now, the Paramvir Chakra awardee's granddaughter has lauded Varun for the film. She wrote, "We're all proud & excited for the film. The hard, sincerity, & josh is truly mirrored in the teaser itself." To this, Varun Dhawan replied, "Thank you. Your family's opinion means everything to us."

During the teaser launch event, Varun Dhawan talked about the addition in the script, and how he made sure that the director kept it. The actor revealed that during the shoot, he and the film’s unit heard a war cry from the aspirants at the academy where a part of the film has been shot at. Dhawan shared that a senior officer at the academy roared to awaken the aspirants, and asked, "Awaaz kahan tak jaani chaahiye? Lahore tak (Where shall the voice reach? It should reach Lahore)."

Talking about the same, Varun told the media, "I thought, we must include this bit. If they didn't write it then they wouldn't have added it to the script. I then went to Sunny sir, and said in his ears, ‘Sir, please do this, this is a very big and real moment. Please use this'."

He further mentioned, "That's why I use it only in teaser. Okay, do it. Then I didn't know if it would work, so I went after Sunny paaji. I mean I can't tell you, I got goosebumps. The one who was the trainer, I mean, what a voice it must have actually reached Lahore, the way it was doing."

Directed by Anurag Singh, the film is a sequel to the first film that was released in the year 1997. In the movie, Sunny Deol will be seen as Lt Col Fateh Singh Kaler, Varun Dhawan as Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya (PVC), Diljit Dosanjh as Fg Offr Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon (PVC), and Ahan Shetty as Lt Cdr Joseph Pius Alfred Noronha (MVC). The war drama also stars Mona Singh, Medha Rana, Sonam Bajwa, and Anya Singh.

The film is set to hit theaters on January 23, 2026.
