Not every Bollywood actor is comfortable performing intimate scenes on screen. Several stars have openly spoken about maintaining a no-kissing policy throughout their careers. Their decisions are often shaped by personal values, family-oriented choices and professional boundaries.
Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha stayed consistent
Salman Khan is one of the most well-known actors to avoid kissing scenes. He has long preferred films that can be watched by the entire family. In a throwback interview with Rediff , Salman said, “No. I get scared of horror films,” before adding, “No sex yet, no horror yet."
Sonakshi Sinha has also maintained a no-kissing clause in her contracts. In a 2016 interview with SCREEN , she said, “Obviously there are inhibitions. That’s why I don’t do it in my films.”
Tamannaah Bhatia broke her rule for the right role
Tamannaah Bhatia followed a strict no-kissing and no-intimacy policy for nearly 18 years. She chose to break that rule for Lust Stories 2, in which she starred alongside
Vijay Varma. Speaking to Film Companion, Tamannaah said, “I really wanted to work with Sujoy and I’m really happy that he thought of me for this part especially because I have done literally no intimacy in my career or very little intimacy in my career. I was that audience that would get awkward and I was that audience that was like ‘main ye kabhi nahi karungi, main kabhi nahi kiss karungi on screen (I will never do this, I will never kiss onscreen).' I was that person, for me it was an evolution to get out of that framework."
Mrunal Thakur, Jannat Zubair and Asin also followed the rule
Mrunal Thakur has openly admitted that she is uncomfortable with kissing scenes and has passed on certain opportunities to remain true to her preferences. Jannat Zubair has stated that her no-kiss policy is a lifelong decision and has made it clear that she intends to maintain it. Asin, who made her Bollywood debut in Ghajini opposite Aamir Khan, also maintained this boundary throughout her acting career.
Shilpa Shetty chose family-friendly content
Shilpa Shetty has consistently avoided kissing scenes and has said she prefers to work on projects suitable for her children.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, she said: "OTT also allows a lot to just go by because it is a platform that is very lenient. However, my preference in my professional career is that I still want my kids to be able to watch the content that I am making. I always do stuff that is family-oriented. I am one of those few artists who is very particular even about kissing on screen, and I have never done that. I am a little clear about what I can do, what I can’t do and what I am comfortable with.”
