Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli ‘heartbroken and gutted’ over tragic stampede at RCB victory celebrations in Bengaluru

What began as a moment of celebration for Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) historic IPL 2025 win ended in a devastating tragedy. A stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the victory celebrations led to the loss of lives, leaving fans, players, and their families in deep shock.


Anushka and Virat react to the heartbreaking news
Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli have both reacted emotionally to the unfortunate incident. The couple, who were part of the celebrations, took to Instagram to share their sadness over what had happened.


Virat said he was at a loss for words and added that he was "gutted" by the deaths and injuries caused by the stampede. Anushka, who had earlier posted happy clips from the victory parade, later added a string of heartbroken emojis to express her grief. Both Anushka and Virat shared RCB’s official statement on their Instagram stories, joining the voices of those mourning the terrible loss.


The statement read, “We are deeply anguished by the unfortunate incidents that have come to light through media reports regarding public gatherings all over Bengaluru in anticipation of the team’s arrival this afternoon. The safety and well-being of everyone is of utmost importance to us."


“RCB mourns the tragic loss of lives and extend our heartfelt condolences to the affected families. Immediately upon being made aware of the situation, we promptly amended our program, and followed the guidance and advice of the local administration. We urge all our supporters to please stay safe."

What happened outside the stadium?
According to reports, after RCB finally won their first IPL title in 18 years, fans flooded the streets of Bengaluru to celebrate. The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) organised a special ceremony inside the stadium to honour the team, with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah set to felicitate the players. However, huge crowds gathered outside the stadium, many without tickets, hoping to catch a glimpse of their heroes. The crowd became unmanageable, leading to chaos that led to a deadly stampede near the stadium gates.
