mumbai: noted playback singer anuradha paudwal on thursday said devotional songs gave singers more freedom and inner satisfaction. "after so many years of singing commercial songs in the music industry, i chose to do a devotional album, something which is very close to my heart. i felt, it is very necessary for survival of the artist in me," anuradha said at the launch of her latest devotional music album 'mere to giridhar gopal' here.
the album, anuradha's first with sony music ltd, has traditional meera bhajans, set to music by london-based pandit vishwa prakash. speaking about the renditions in the album, which are classical-based with a sprinkle of rajasthani folk (maand) in few compositions, anuradha said "it is a labour of love for all of us and comes straight from the heart." answering a query if after this album with sony, she will stop working with t-series, she said "at t-series, i was singing what sells, total commercial stuff. now i feel the need to develop the artist in me. hence, this venture wherein i can sing what i like." "neverthless, i am open to all offers," the singer who has won many accolades for her movie songs, said. the album also marks sony music's first step in the arena of devotional music since its inception four years ago.
