A NEW VENUE FOR BOLLYWOOD? Parliament House (TOI Photo) Sanjay Gupta is getting ready to make a film on the attack on Parliament in 2001 which will have Vivek Oberoi starring as Afzal. After Shootout At Lokhandwala, Sanjay Gupta and Ekta Kapoor are set to make another film based on a real-life incident titled Shootout At Parliament.
The film will be based on the infamous Parliament attack on December 13, 2001. The film stars all the actors from Shootout At Lokhandwala. Incidentally, Gupta has already registered the title of the film at Association of Motion Pictures and Television Programme Producers. Our source informs, “This is a very controversial subject. It will expose many skeletons in the cupboard and will have all the stories which the Delhi Police hasn’t been able to crack as yet.”
The film will also deal with the case of Professor SAR Gilani who was first sentenced to death by the lower court and then released by the High Court for lack of evidence. There have been three attacks on Gilani after that. The film also deals with the fact that although the Delhi cops have said that there were five people involved in this attack, the television footage clearly shows six people getting out of the car. Dec 13, 2001 attack
Five heavily-armed terrorists stormed the Parliament House on December 13, 2001. As they charged towards the main building, security personnel engaged them in a fierce gunbattle, at the end of which all five of them lay dead. The main mastermind was Mohammed Afzal Guru, the death penalty for whom was confirmed by the Supreme Court last year. Presently, Guru’s mercy petition is with the President. The film will also deal with the case of Afzal Guru who has been sentenced to death but his sentence is currently on hold. The most interesting part of the whole case is that even after six years, there is not enough evidence and courts have raised serious doubts on the investigation by the Delhi cops. The source further says, “Most probably, the film will have all the cast members of Shootout At Lokhandwala and Sanjay Gupta will direct the film. Vivek Oberoi will play Afzal. The film will also have live footage that will be given by a news channel.” Shootout At Parliament will also have a huge set of a Parliament just like the makers had a set of Swati building for Shootout At Lokhandwala. However, considering the importance of the subject, this film will be made on a much bigger scale. When contacted, Sanjay Gupta said, “It is too early to comment on this film.”
