Ananya Panday BREAKS down after watching 'Hamnet'; “'Sobbed and sobbed,' says the Bollywood star
Ananya Panday left social media buzzing after she revealed how deeply she was affected by the new biographical drama 'Hamnet'. The actor posted the film’s poster on her Instagram story and confessed that she “Oooof, sobbed and sobbed and sobbed,” pairing the message with a broken-heart emoji.
The poster she shared shows Paul Mescal resting his head on Jessie Buckley’s shoulder as the two sit in a serene field of wildflowers.
Hamnet, directed by Chloe Zhao, adapts Maggie O’Farrell’s acclaimed 2020 novel of the same name. The film explores the family life of William Shakespeare and his wife Anne Hathaway and they navigate the grief of losing their 11-year-old son, Hamnet.
The cast also includes Emily Watson, Joe Alwyn, and Noah Jupe in key roles.
Reviews for Hamnet have celebrated its layered performances and Zhao’s understated yet affecting storytelling. In its review, ETimes wrote: “Jessie Buckley’s performance as Agnes forms the emotional center of the film, and she is exceptional. She plays the character as intuitive and deeply connected to her surroundings. In the early scenes, she brings warmth without exaggeration. After Hamnet’s death, her grief feels internal rather than theatrical.”
The review also praised Mescal’s restrained portrayal of Shakespeare: “Paul Mescal takes a more restrained approach as William. His portrayal suggests a man who processes pain privately, sometimes to the frustration of those around him. He avoids turning William into a popular figure and instead presents him as someone uncertain and conflicted.” It added that “Special mention must also be made of child actor Jacobi Jupe, who is remarkable in the role of Hamnet. His death scene in the film is guaranteed to break your heart.”
On the other hand, Ananya Panday's previous film was 'Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri'.
