Justin Timberlake files petition against bodycam footage release from 2024 DWI charge to avoid 'severe and irreparable harm’

Actor and singer Justin Timberlake was arrested in 2024 on a DWI charge. As per the latest reports, authorities plan to release bodycam footage of the events that led to the arrest. Now, the famed singer has filed a petition with the court to stop the release, citing that it will cause him significant damage. PEOPLE cited in their latest report on the matter, sharing that the star had filed a petition against the release of the bodycam footage. He cited in the documents that the footage's release was an invasion of his privacy.The official statement from the filed petition shared that “Public dissemination of this footage would cause severe and irreparable harm to [Timberlake’s] personal and professional reputation, subject [Timberlake] to public ridicule and harassment, and serve no legitimate public interest.” His attorney also cited that releasing the footage would reveal and “expose highly personal details unrelated to public oversight of governmental operations.” Timberlake and his legal team filed the complaint at the Suffolk County Supreme Court. They also requested that Timberlake and his legal reps review the bodycam footage. The video's release had been requested under the grounds of the Freedom of Information Law. In June 2024, the singer was arrested while leaving the American Hotel in Sag Harbor, New York. At the time, he was charged with one count of driving while intoxicated and two citations for running a stop sign while driving. He also changed lanes illegally, which resulted in the citations. In September, he officially entered a plea deal regarding the matter and agreed to a less serious charge and punishment.
