Ameesha Patel reveals Hrithik Roshan was a 'thin, introverted, awkward teenager and shy' like her and later completely transformed: 'The term ‘Greek God’ was coined by me'

Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel made their Bollywood debut together in the iconic film Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai in 2000. While the film turned both into overnight sensations, their connection goes beyond their debut, as the two had known each other long before their rise to fame. Most recently, Ameesha Patel, basking in the success of Gadar 2, reflected on her co-star Hrithik Roshan’s journey and transformation.

Talking about her first impression of Hrithik, Ameesha told News18, “We were family friends, and I knew him when we were teenagers. He was a thin, introverted, and awkward teenager. He was shy like me. When I came back to Mumbai after my education in Boston and saw him, he had completely transformed!"

Ameesha likened Hrithik's journey to that of a caterpillar blossoming into a butterfly, highlighting his drastic transformation. She fondly recalled how she referred to him as a “superstar” even before the world recognized him as one, though Hrithik himself dismissed it at the time, thinking she was biased.




“We both grew from gawky teenagers to young adults. And we hit it off from the word go! I used to call him Pierce Brosnan, the Bond! The term ‘Greek God’ was also coined by me, and I’m very proud of it. It stuck with him since day one,” she added, beaming with pride.

Patel also noted how Hrithik continues to stay relevant in the ever-changing world of Bollywood and remains a “fitness icon” admired by fans across generations.

Nearly 25 years later, the film remains a classic and was re-released in theaters earlier this week to commemorate Hrithik’s 51st birthday on January 10, 2025.
