Aditya Dhar to take a break after 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' success; to choose between 'The Immortal Ashwatthama', reunion with Ranveer Singh in Chandragupta Maurya film
Following the back-to-back blockbuster success of his films 'Dhurandhar' and 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge', director Aditya Dhar is reportedly contemplating between three very different genres for his next big project. The director, who got the Indian box office off to a flying start this year, with a record-smashing Rs 1,500 crore haul with 'Dhurandhar 2', is reportedly considering three potential films for his next big venture. These films, as per Variety India, include a revival of his passion project, 'The Immortal Ashwatthama' which was shelved, a large-scale historical epic on the reign of Chandragupta Maurya, and a sports drama.

Aditya Dhar to reunite with Ranveer Singh after 'Dhurandhar'

While the director is reportedly spoilt for choice, he will reportedly move forward, only after a well-deserved break. The director, who had spent the past three years working on his two-part 'Dhurandhar' franchise with Ranveer Singh, will take a break. The report states, "but what’s certain is that his next film will be much bigger in scale and ambition."As per the report, Dhar is inclined towards reuniting with Ranveer again, this time for the historical drama on the founder of the Maurya Empire.
The filmmaker has reportedly been in discussions with the actor since last year. Their successful collab with 'Dhurandhar' has only heightened expectations for this possible new venture. While Ranveer has starred in historical dramas like 'Padmaavat' and 'Bajirao Mastani', this upcoming film reportedly "hasn't been explored yet."

'The Immortal Ashwatthama' back on the cards

At the same time, 'The Immortal Ashwatthama' remains as one of Dhar's passion projects that was put on the back burner citing 'budget' issues. However, following Rs 2,800 crore haul from 'Dhurandhar', the film could just be back on the cards. However, if it doesn't get the green signal, the historical drama is said to be the next "most obvious" choice. In addition, Dhar is also rumoured to be working on a sports drama, though details about the project remain under wraps.

'Dhurandhar 2' box office success

Meanwhile, 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' continued its record-breaking run at the box office. The film achieved a worldwide total of Rs 1,523.58 crore as per sacnilk. The film's all-India gross total is currently estimated at Rs 1,148.58 crore and its overseas haul is currently at an estimated Rs 375 crore. Meanwhile, the film's net total at the domestic box office is on its way to the Rs 1,000 crore mark, with collections estimated at Rs 959.37 crore.
