'Aamir Khan is keen to work on Sarfarosh 2,' says Sarfarosh director John Matthew Matthan

1999 saw the release of the megahit movie ‘Sarfarosh’, starring Sonali Bendre and Aamir Khan. The movie marked 25 years of release today, April 30. The film's director, John Matthew Matthan, provided an update on ‘Sarfarosh 2’ and discussed the film's milestone in a recent interview.


John Matthew Matthan stated that he met Aamir Khan, who expressed a very keen desire to see the second installment of the film. In a recent interview with Indian Express, ‘Sarfarosh’ filmmaker John revealed that he had given up on filmmaking after directing a few movies since he wasn't enjoying the process. However, he now wants to make a comeback with ‘Sarfarosh 2’.


The director revealed that he had seen Aamir Khan last week because of 25 years of ‘Sarfarosh’. He also mentioned that they planned to host a small get-together and hold a special screening for the cast and crew. Speaking about ‘Sarfarosh 2’, John said, “Aamir is keen. I am also planning to make it, but unless you get the freedom and choice to do it and if it is not pleasurable for you then, how are others going to enjoy your film? Also there are not many scripts that I have liked."


He further added, "We have to find the right story. Aamir is very keen on Sarfarosh 2. But unless I have the right story that suits him, I can’t. It is not that easy." The director went on to say that the reason the movie is challenging is that Aamir's character, ACP Ajay Singh Rathore, would be the Director General of Police, and people at that rank don't go from their office to the field.


He concluded by saying, "So I have to consult the police and find a loophole on how to make him step out of his office and fight. Understand how much liberty I can take with his role. But when I make it, Aamir will be a part of it. He is very keen."


‘Sarfarosh’, starring Sonali Bendre and Aamir Khan, is one of the biggest hits ever made. Speaking about the narrative, a young medical student leaves school to enlist in the Indian Police Service in order to hunt down terrorists after his brother is killed and his father suffers serious injuries at the hands of terrorists.
