Thamma box office day 5: Ayushmann Khurrana-Rashmika Mandanna film shows growth, hits Rs 78 crore
Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui gained momentum at the box office, seeing a notable jump in collections on its fifth day.
According to industry tracking site Sacnilk, Thamma continued its strong run in the initial days at the box office. On day five, the film earned Rs 13 crore, bringing its total collection to Rs 78.60 crore.
Thamma has now surpassed the lifetime collection of Varun Dhawan’s Maddock horror-comedy Bhediya, which earned Rs 68.99 crore, and earlier overtook the domestic earnings of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor (Rs 60.35 crore). On Saturday, the film recorded an overall 19.72 percent occupancy in Hindi screens.
Thamma received largely positive reviews from critics and audiences. The horror-comedy had a blockbuster opening, earning Rs 24 crore on day one, followed by Rs 18.6 crore on day two and Rs 13 crore on day three. Even on the first Friday, a working day, the film held strong with Rs 10 crore.
On Friday, Ayushmann took to social media to share a heartfelt post thanking everyone for Thamma’s success. Along with a series of photos and videos with his family and moments of fans cheering him in theatres, he wrote, “This family has seen a lot in the last few years. The success of Thamma is like a beautiful divine light. It is a result of the collective prayers of the young and the old present here.” “My family, my late father and the audience have blessed Thamma with love. Don’t be surprised if you come across an overwhelmed me in one of the theatres in the suburbs —I may drop in to say hi and thank you,” he added.
In an interview with ANI, Rashmika recounted shooting for 'Tum Mere Na Hue' song despite foot fracture. She said, “The doctors had told me three months of bed rest, but I was up and moving around for Chhaava promotions in like 30 days.” The actress also shared the struggles she faced while shooting.
“Today, when I look at my foot, the shape has changed. But I remember being in so much pain, and I had to shoot the song in that pain as well. We had to shoot the song at the same time,” she admitted.
Despite her doctors’ strong advice for extended rest, Rashmika was fully committed to performing the song sequence in full perfection. “At the end of the day, what matters most is the love that people give and the smiles on their faces. That is what it’s all about,” she added.
