Blood Money doesn't make much money
Blood Money works better at single screens while Bumboo is a complete washout.
Bhatts continue their modest budget yet conventional zone moviemaking and to an extent it also works for them. Blood Money opened on a slow note but the business picked over the weekend and the film managed to collect around Rs 6 crores in its first weekend. Lack of strong contenders (Agent Vinod fizzled out in week 2) made it the only option for moviegoers.
1x1 polls
The business isn't great but not bad for a medium-budget film with Kunal Khemu as the solo lead. However the prospects won't get better beyond this.
The second release Bumboo was a complete washout. The makers might have intended a low-budget comedy in the likes of Bheja Fry with the story being derived from a French film written by Francis Weber (who also made 'The Dinner Game' from which Bheja Fry was remade). Alas unlike Bheja Fry that had some good humour and decent performances, this one lacked both and turned a dud at the box-office.
Meanwhile Agent Vinod fizzled in its second week and with theatrical revenues almost coming to an end, the mega-budgeted film could run into losses.
The coming week sees the release of the last mega-budgeted film before the IPL season takes over. Sajid Khan's Housefull 2 also claims of a multi star-cast with 12 stars making up for the dirty dozens. While the makers are super confident about the film, it needs to be seen how the audience respond to this slapstick comedy. While at one side there is the risk of releasing the film with the onset of IPL, it could also be a blessing in disguise with this being the only big film option for moviegoers through the IPL. Case in point being last year's
Tanu Weds Manu which reaped rich benefits being the last big release before the Cricket World Cup started in 2011.
