The debate about whether today's songs have lost melody has been going on for a while now. And recreated songs getting more and more popular in Bollywood has only heated the debate. And most music composers feel that in this time when a lot of digital components are used to creating music, the melody has taken a back seat and the focus has shifted to packaging the song in such a way that it catches attention of the audience. But the shelf life remains short.
Talking about it, Gujarati music composer Nishith Mehta, who has composed music for Gujarati films like Mission Mummy and Lamboo Rastoo to name a few, says, "These days the focus is on the right packaging and not on the music and that's why the shelf life of today's songs has reduced so much. Earlier, the songs had a neat balance between the melody and the lyrics that complimented each other well. That's why those songs still remain relevant and popular. There are so many bands that play their versions of old melodies and so many old classics are being recreated in Bollywood."
