SPPU attempts world record by distributing more than 16000 saplings
On Sunday, the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) distributed 16631 saplings as part of its Green Wari initiative to students from more than 300 colleges who volunteer for the National Service Scheme (NSS).
In the attempt to create a world record, SPPU started the Green Wari initiative, which will continue till July 15, under which the saplings distributed are aimed to be planted across the Pune-Pandharpur route of the annual Pandharichi Wari.

The initiative itself aims to promote ecological awareness, water conservation and regenaration of tree cover.

At the event on Sunday, held at the SPPU premises, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, SPPU vice-chancellor Nitin Karmalkar, minister Chandrakant Patil and Pune mayor Mukta Tilak were present along with other dignitaries.
