Pittsburgh audience mesmerized by Indian classical music evening

A music school in Pittsburgh, in collaboration with the Music Department of Chatham University, hosted a special evening of Indian classical music that brought students, music lovers, and the local community together.The program began with performances by students of the music school, reflecting the school’s commitment to nurturing young talent under the guidance of Nidrita Mitra Sinha and Ashish Sinha. Their dedication to teaching and preserving classical traditions was evident in the confidence and skill of the young performers.The highlight of the evening was a performance by santoor player Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya. He was accompanied on the tabla by Subhajyoti Guha, whose rhythmic expertise added depth and energy to the recital.Bhattacharya performed Raga Jansammohini in Jhaptaal and Teentaal, followed by several Dhuns that captivated the audience. His soulful playing, combined with technical mastery, earned a spontaneous standing ovation from all present.Organizers described the event as a cultural celebration and a successful effort to promote Indian classical music in the United States while fostering connections across generations and communities.
