That’s the question young artist Janavi Mahimtura’s paintings posed, at the preview of her solo show co-hosted by Tarana Khubchandani on Monday evening. Perceptual Perception’ was the name of her show and a string of well-wishers (mostly known to her parents Sailesh and Shenaz Mahimtura) congregated to look, admire and yes, even perceive.
Besides applauding her talent, the art aficionados regaled one another with nuggets about Janavi who they’ve known since she was a kid happiest dabbling with paints! US Consul General Paul Folmsbee, who has been forever supportive of Janavi’s talent said he “had to be there on her big day”; Poonam Soni, back on the scene after daughter Esha’s wedding extravaganza was there to “encourage a creative soul — it’s from one creative person to another”; Rekha Shivdasani enjoyed the mix of works and colours and later sung praises about her latest detox diet and exercise regime.
Also discussing her back-to-the-gym routine to cut the (seriously, non-existent) post pregnancy flab was Perizaad Zorabian-Irani — the pretty actress confessed to not understanding art “to save my life” but came to support the Mahimturas who she has known since years. “The friendship goes back over generations,” she smiled.
Usha Agarwal, who shares a warm rapport with Shenaz, was there to encourage Janavi; Asha Patel, who has known Shenaz since their school years, also took time out to be there for the young artist. Vipta Kapadia, Kahini Arte-Merchant and Priti Mehta were among the long list of guests hobnobbing over wine and canapés.
