It was the premiere show of ‘I Can’t Stop Loving You’ presented by Johnnie Walker Live. Yes, the famed Ray Charles musical traversed from London’s West End to downtown Mumbai.
High-energy excitement and exuberance entered your system as you sat spellbound and soaked in the sound and the sight of the musicians, spirited singers and dazzling dancers.
It was a slick and chic act with a generous dose of soul, jazz, blues, country and pop, celebrating the life and time of the legendary Ray Charles. While you had the time of your life in the auditorium, the good times rolled even before the spectacular show when they told you to ‘Keep walking’ — across the black carpet and up to the Black Label bar offering the smooth Scotch and also the ‘Reward Yourself’ cocktails like Johnnie Walker Columns and Johnnie Walker Sunrise that brought sunshine in your life even after sunset. Black and gold was the dress code and most people took that seriously. Host Asif Adil, MD, Diageo India welcomed the merry mix of guests who all believed in celebrating life everyday, everywhere. Spotted in the packed house were Priya Dutt with husband Owen Roncon, party hearty couple Remu and Naaz Zaveri (who drew admiring glances for her very elegant black and gold dress), Ranjan and Jimi Kapur, Singapore’s Vice Consul Richard Tan Seng Keong and wife Catherine, Niranjan and Jyoti Thakur, hoteliers Rattan Kewsani, Rohit Khosla and Dinesh Khanna, Homi Adajania, Nikhil Chaturvedi, Geetu Hinduja in the company of a tall pony-tailed man and Monica Vaziralli all by herself but mingling with everyone. She seemed to have misread the invite and wore silver instead of gold. Also present were Diageo directors James Thompson, Marketing Director — Diageo Asia Pacific and John Patterson, HR Director – Diageo Asia Pacific. “Johnnie Walker and Ray Charles are two icons of personal progress. Like the exclusive blends of Johnnie Walker ranging from Red Label to Blue Label, Ray Charles has showcased his prodigious versatility across distinct genres,” said Asif Adil. The event was in association with the Economic Times.
