Monday morning blues got some lively colour in the afternoon when the team of “Dus Tola” – Manoj Bajpayee, Aarti Chhabria, Siddharth Makkar, Pallavi Sharda, Ajov Varma and Kunwar Pragya Arya – gathered in Noida. To break the silence at the venue, Manoj was asked to say a few words about the film, but the actor, shying away from talking, preferred to say, “Seedhe sawaal-jawaab par hi aa jaatey hain.” The cast was frequently questioned over the apprehensions about the film hitting the multiplexes on a Friday clashing with three other big budget films.
So Manoj kind of explained it, once and for all. “We had planned it. When the other three films were done with their promotion, we thought we will create a buzz amongst the audience just then, so that our movie has a stronger impact on their minds. Jab sab thhak gaye, tab humne shuru kiya,” he announced. Anything special or different about this film, people asked. “Main hoon na,” came the spontaneous rejoinder. Ah! Karaara jawaab mil gaya na!
Manoj’s new look (he recently shaved his head clean) was the other topic of discussion. So again, he had to rubbish all the rumours of the clean head look being for one of his films, albeit this time with some humour. “Arre, baalon mein khujhli ho rahi thi, so shaved them off. If it had been for some film, I wouldn’t have kept it a secret.”
In a random discussion, he was asked if he is very innocent. “Not at all; Manoj bahut chalaak hai. I mean, I’m quite street smart. I came to the film industry from a village, and turned smart during this long journey. In fact, nobody will buy it if I say I’m too naïve... aap log mujhe yahaan se bhagaa dengey,” he joked.
Later, Aarti and Pallavi were asked to share their experiences of working with a senior actor like Manoj. Before the ladies could open their mouth, Manoj complained, “Buddha bana diya mujhe!”
Lastly, since he is known for his one-liners in most of the films he does, how about mouthing one for us from his next? With eyes shining bright and a mischievous smile, Manoj asked, “Dialogue bolne ke paise denge? I am an artiste, paise dogey toh entertain karunga.” He got no money, but did some dialogue-baazi just like a true artiste would.
