When the BMW Motorcade for the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2012 was flagged off on Saturday from the Trident, Nariman Point, driving across Mafatlal Bath on Marine Drive and back to the Trident, a cheer went up from the crowds. BMW is the official car of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2012. The BMW Motorcade, comprising the BMW X6 (the lead car for the Full Marathon), the BMW X1 (lead car for the Half Marathon), the BMW 6 Series Convertible (lead car for the Dream-Run), the new BMW 6 Series Coupe and the BMW 7 Series, mapped the marathon route driving the elite athletes.
Present for the occasion were
Rahul Bose, actor and event supporter, Vijay Amritraj, International Event Brand Ambassador of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2012, Christian Saffer, Director Marketing, BMW India, YS Bilkha, Head Corporate Affairs, TCS, VD Wadhwa, Managing Director, TIMEX India and Vivek B Singh, Joint Managing Director, Procam International.
BMW Group India cheered the runners at the Marathon. A pasta lunch followed the BMW Motorcade, to honour the time bound tradition of ‘Carbo-Loading’ where athletes load up on a carb feast in preparation for the oncoming race. The CEOs and other VIP guests donned the chef’s apron to prepare as delectable pasta spread that was relished by all. On the occasion, Christian Saffer said, “BMW is Number One in the Luxury car segment in India. You cannot just walk, you have to run to be Number One. And to remain Number One you cannot do a small sprint, you need to have the stamina to run a Marathon. With our participation in the Marathon, BMW India celebrates the unstoppable and indomitable spirit of Mumbai.”
