Hindustani classical vocalist Pt Kumar Mukherjee and his disciples presented a unique concert called Durgadhwani on Friday, just ahead of Mahalaya. The ensemble of artistes rendered songs to mark the rituals of the festival and also to celebrate regional music. The presentation was interspersed with dance performances by Shamila Bhattacharya and her students.
Next on the cards was a screening of Dashamahavidya, a documentary, followed by a musical act written and composed by Pt Kumar Mukherjee. His renditions were complemented by Tania Dewanji’s choreography.
The grand show concluded with the felicitation of women achievers like
Mamata Shankar, Sudipa Bose, Sudiptaa Chakraborty, Mita Nag,
Sudeshna Roy, Sanjukta Ghosh, Urmimala Basu and others. The entire show was hosted by interdisciplinary artiste Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee.
“This evening was special because the invocation was innovatively designed and ushered in the spirit of festivity with
happiness,” said Mamata Shankar, who was delighted to see young girls dressed up as Durga, who escorted the artistes to the stage.
