A photography exhibition to celebrate Amala Shankar's birth centenary
Several celebs were present at Udayan Kalakendra to witness the grand celebrations of Amala Shankar’s birth centenary on Thursday. The celebrations that will go on for three consecutive days also has an exhibition at Rabindra Sadan on Friday that will have rare photographs of Amala along with her daughters Tanusree and Mamata Shankar, apart from pictures of her late dancer husband, Uday Shankar.

Members and students of Ananda Shankar Centre for Performing Arts will also put up a show during Friday’s event. The xhibition of photographs on Amala Shankar’s journey of 100 years will be one of the highlights of the show. The beautiful photographs that will be displayed at the exhibition have been retrieved and restored by the Shankar family over these years. Also, during Amala’s 99th birthday celebrations, these photographs were used as part of the exhibition that reflect the childhood days of Mamata Shankar and her sister. There are photographs of young Sreenanda Shankar and also Ratul Shankar, Amala’s grandchildren. The rare photographs celebrate the living legend that Amala is and her life. Some of the pictures at the exhibition are also from the family album of the Shankar family for the visitors to see. The cultural shows along with the photography exhibition will go on till Saturday at Rabindra Sadan.
