I wish to see a corruption-free Goa: Francis de Tuem
In earlier times, tiatr would focus on social issues such as atrocities on the poorer sections of society. During those days, tiatrists like Kid Boxer, Trio King and William de Curtorim were known for their political songs. Earlier, tiatrs would have two songs; nowadays it can go up to 13 songs and this allows us to shine light on a large spectrum of issues in one tiatr. If it wasn’t for the pandemic, I would have never started a Youtube channel, where I upload my political songs. The current scenario in the tiatr world and the Goan life at large has been evolving and adapting to the present times. Life is now moving online at a rapid phase, and so is tiatr.Outside the stage, we have seen how our Goan brethren taking up various jobs like selling fish, fruits vegetables, home delivery services and more in the pandemic. These jobs were once carried out by people from outside the state, who have gone back to their homes. This shows that we can be self-sufficient and do not have to be dependent on others for our economic prosperity. There is no shame or embarrassment in doing any kind of job.
I wish to see a corruption-free state — right now, prospective candidates shell out money to get jobs in Goa, and once they get the jobs, they in turn use their position to loot people. This is how corruption grows as a vicious circle. Jobs or college admission should be given on merit, which is the need of the hour and not on connections.Francis de Tuem is an acclaimed tiatrist who focuses on politics and current issuesAs told to Kimberly.Colaco@timesgroup.com
