Christmas buzz fills Goa as markets come alive
Christmas cheer is already in the air across Goa, as markets fill up with decorations, lights and towering Christmas trees. The festive rush has picked up early this year, with shoppers eager to explore new designs and décor options ahead of the celebrations.
From Panjim to Margao, markets have turned vibrant with colourful stars, ornaments and strings of lights, drawing families and visitors alike. For many Goans, Christmas shopping is an annual tradition. Narusha Dsouza, a model and entrepreneur from Calangute, says, “We buy new Christmas décor annually, and this year our shopping has already begun in full swing."
Shoppers can choose from a wide range of Christmas trees, starting from six feet and going up to as tall as ten feet. Sellers say demand has been steady, with many opting for bigger trees and coordinated décor. In Panjim city, Christmas décor seller Naina Desai says stocks arrived earlier than usual. “This year the stock came in by the end of November and early December. There are new patterns, lights and even home décor like mugs and plates. This trend has been growing, and we have almost sold out,” she says.
In Margao, store owner Ivan Barros says experience helps him curate his collection. "After running the store for so many years, I know what people want to buy,” he says. His store features a mix of traditional decorations, handcrafted items and contemporary pieces that appeal to a wide range of customers.
With markets bustling and shelves quickly emptying, the festive mood is unmistakable. As homes light up and preparations gather pace, Goa once again reflects the warmth and joy that define Christmas in the state.
