After an hour of delay and anticipation, the Duke took to the stage to announce the Queen’s diamond jubilee. “The Queen’s jubilee is a major event for the United Kingdom and the Queen has been insistent that it not just includes people from the United Kingdom, but this jubilee be also seen as her service to the Commonwealth and dominion countries. She came to India in 1961 when I was one and I am delighted to be here,” he said. Bevan said, “The Duke is a great friend of India and not many know this but he visits the country very often.” Pictures documenting the queen’s previous visits to India were also displayed here.
