Breaking the stereotypes of a studious engineering college, the students of Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology organized a debating fest, Colloquium 2014, recently. The event saw different competitions, but the most awaited event was the panel discussion on day one – ‘Why so serious? Between lines and beyond the boundaries of humour’. The session had panelists like Papa CJ, Vasu Primlani, Shovon Chowdhury, Chandrahas Choudhary and Sujata Madhok. Both the standup artistes, Vasu and Papa CJ, received loud cheers from the audience.The panel discussed the standards of comedy in the country, compared slapstick to meaningful humour and the need for better quality of writing in the entertainment industry. Vasu had the girls in the crowd cheering with her take on Delhi men, while Sumon, an active blogger, found many listeners for his thoughts. During the open session, the students asked Papa CJ what his name meant, but the artiste ducked the question. MPS Bhatia, dean of student welfare, thanked the guests for their visit and participation.
