Dance piece with focus on the depths of primal instincts performed in Delhi
CocoonDance Company successfully presented its celebrated contemporary dance work Vis Motrix in Delhi on 7 December at Arthshila Delhi, drawing an engaged audience and strong appreciation for its distinctive choreographic language and powerful stage presence.
Vis Motrix—Latin for “driving force”—places instinct, physical urgency and deep internal impulses at the centre of movement. Rejecting codified forms, the piece allows bodies to transform continuously, creating a heightened, almost primal physicality. Performed and created by women-identifying artists, the work also emerges from a feminist creative process that foregrounds agency, intuition and collective authorship.
This performance formed part of CocoonDance’s India tour from 30 November to 11 December 2025, which included a micro arts residency in Kochi and shows in Kochi, Delhi, Jaipur and Bengaluru. The tour is supported by the NATIONALES PERFORMANCE NETZ – International Guest Performance Fund for Dance, funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (Germany), along with Le Canton du Valais and the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, in partnership with Meta Arts and local presenting organisations.
