A classical music evening 'Varsha RituSangeet Sandhya' was held in Chandigarh recently. The evening was organized by the Indian National Theatre to celebrate the arrival of the monsoon in association with a foundation in the auditorium of Strawberry Fields High School.
The artiste, Shobha Choudhary has developed her unique style of performing various genres, may it be khayal gayaki, dadra, kajari, thumri, bhajan or abhanga.
She presents her concert with precision, adorning it with the splendid modulation of swaras and mesmerizing her audience with sweet melodious compositions.
After marriage, Shobha moved to Indore where she was guided by Late Shri Madhavrao Joshi for ten years; his lessons gave a depth to her dedication towards her ongoing talim. She then took lessons from Late Pt Vamanrao Rajurkar of Gwalior Gharana (father in law of Vidushi Malini Rajurkar) and Padmabhushan Late Pt CR Vyas and Late Pt Balasaheb Puchhawale, to pursue the intrinsic qualities of Khayal Gayaki and assimilate her unique ideas in her performance.
Shobha was accompanied by Promita Mukherjee on the harmonium and Jaidev on the tabla.
She started her performance with a traditional bandish in Raag Miyan Malhar 'Ve Ati Dhoom Dhur Aaye' followed by ' Badariya Aayi Re' in Ektaal 'Ja Re Ja Badra Tu Door' set to madhya laya Teental in Raag Gaud Malhar and continued with 'Umad Ghan Ghumad Aaye' set in Aada Chautal. After which she presented a beautiful composition in raag Patdeep Malhar set to teen taal 'Kaise Kar Aaoon Tumhre Paas'. After presenting this composition she went on to present 'Bheegi Jaaoon Main Piya Bacha Leo' - Kajri and concluded her recital with another very beautiful traditional Kajri and Jhula.
