AIDS awareness programme in Sec 8
The Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society recently organised an awareness drive related to HIV/AIDS at Sector 8 here. The team visited a prominent eatery to make people aware about the issue. Dr Vanita Gupta, project director, said, “HIV is a disease that does not discriminate. Anyone can contract this disease, which is why it is important for youth to be aware of how to protect themselves and prevent the transmission of HIV.”
The society will conduct awareness programmes at other places too and will involve youth to give them details about HIV/AIDS.

Dr Jitender Dahiya, AD (SPM), of society informed that HIV is found in specific human body fluids. There are very specific ways that HIV can be transmitted through body fluids. He also sensitized the youth about the modes of HIV prevention. Condoms and IEC material was distributed. Also, an open discussion was held at the end of the programme where participants came up with their queries and myths.
