Reving gond art: A painting exhibition, Cheenha-Samarpan, was inaugurated at Alliance Francaise de Bhopal on Saturday, displaying Gond paintings, a form of Madhya Pradesh’s tribal art. The artists taking part in the exhibition included Venkat Raman, Vijay Kumar, Nankusiya, Rajendra, Dileep, Dhawat Singh, Gariba Singh, Heeraman, Ramsingh, Subhash, Suresh Kumar and Mohan Shyam. The do was inaugurated by Vikas Bhatt, retd director in-charge and curator, Museum of Mankind, Bhopal.
Appreciated in Paris: About Gond paintings, Venkat Raman said, “Gond art can be called as slice-of-life paintings because they are themed on day-to-day life, nature, Gods and Goddesses and many other aspects associated with human life.

We recently took part in an exhibition in Paris where these paintings were highly appreciated.” The guests were also all praise for the artwork. Swati, a professor, exclaimed, “I love Gond paintings. They are colourful and vibrant, yet have a very subtle and sophisticated feel to them.”
