Art with a Heart: Michelle and Yohan Poonawalla contribute for ‘Move for Cancer Awareness’ initiative by Tata Memorial Hospital
Bringing together the worlds of art and philanthropy, acclaimed artist and philanthropist Michelle Poonawalla contributed two of her celebrated artworks — ‘Graffiti Ganesha’ and ‘Divine Blessings’ — to the annual ‘Crimson Charity Gala 2025 – Where Couture Meets Compassion’, held recently. The event was organised under the ‘Move for Cancer Awareness’ initiative by the MCan Foundation, founded by fashion designer Maheka Mirpuri, in support of Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai.
Now in its 13th year, the Crimson Charity Gala continues its mission of hope and humanity, having raised ₹11.8 crore in support of Tata Memorial Hospital for head and neck cancer patients. The event unites art, fashion, and philanthropy to drive meaningful change, witnessing enthusiastic participation from patrons and collectors who come together to support a cause that touches countless lives. Michelle Poonawalla’s artworks, known for their spiritual depth, expressive abstraction, and uplifting energy, drew notable interest from bidders, reflecting both her artistic acclaim and her enduring dedication to humanitarian causes. This year’s edition of the Crimson Charity Gala further strengthened that commitment, raising ₹4.28 crore in support of Tata Memorial Hospital’s efforts to provide care for underprivileged cancer patients.
Reflecting on her association with the initiative, Michelle Poonawalla, Director, Poonawalla Group, shared, “Art has the power to move hearts and minds. It can heal, inspire, and bring people together for a larger purpose. Supporting the MCan Foundation and Tata Memorial Hospital’s efforts to provide care for underprivileged cancer patients is a cause that deeply resonates with me.”
Both Michelle and Yohan Poonawalla have long been recognised for their philanthropy and dedication to social impact, particularly in the areas of healthcare, education, and community development. Their participation in this charitable auction reflects a shared belief in using art and resources as vehicles to uplift lives and foster hope.
Commenting on their contribution, Yohan Poonawalla, Chairman, Poonawalla Group, shared, “We have always believed that giving back to society is both a privilege and a responsibility. Supporting Michelle’s art for such a meaningful cause allows us to contribute to the exceptional work being done by Tata Memorial Hospital and the MCan Foundation. We are honoured to contribute to the MCan Foundation’s remarkable mission.”
Through this meaningful collaboration, Michelle Poonawalla continues to exemplify how creativity, when rooted in empathy, can transcend boundaries and inspire change, turning art into a powerful medium of hope and healing.
