SZA despised the recent AI (artificial intelligence) social media trend, where fans posed alongside their favourite artists by using the generated images – and she made sure everyone knew about it. Calling out the environmental harm and misuse of her art, the 35-year-old singer denounced prompts.
SZA condemns AI
During the weekend, SZA posted a story on her Instagram account, sending a message to her fans. “Hey, I hate AI,” she wrote, before adding, “If you f*** w me PLEASE don’t make any AI images of me or songs.” “Ppl and children are dying from the harm n pollution Ai energy centers are creating. A stupid photo is not worth polluting and harming under served communities. Thank you,” she continued in her message.
Furthermore, the ‘Kill Bill’ singer highlighted that the due to prompts a forgotten community is suffereing the after-effects – which will eventually reach out to everyone. “By then it’ll be too late. Bless,” she concluded her note. Moreover, SZA, born Solána Imani Rowe, shared an AI-generated photo of her and her fan, claiming that she has seen a dozen of these.
The controversial Xania Monet
The ‘Saturn’ singer proceeded to criticise the AI R&B artist, Xania Monet, who signed a multi-million dollar deal. “Ion fw this either,” she said, bashing the decisions, before adding, “Why devalue our music???” “Something tells me they wouldn’t do this with another genre,” she continued.
The deal was about USD 3 million for the AI-generated artist that resembles the black woman singing R&B music, a tradition that was innately created and influenced by Black women artists.
