Tom Hanks is preparing for his final appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Over the last eleven years, he has become one of the show's most familiar and beloved guests. During his many visits to the Ed Sullivan Theater, Tom Hanks has spoken about his films, his family, his love of typewriters, and living in the public eye. The Late Show enters its final week

Tom Hanks will appear on Wednesday, May 13. The episode will air during the show's last full week before the series finale on May 21. The finale will bring the Late Show franchise's 33-year run on CBS to a close. Several major guests are also scheduled for the farewell week. Julia Louis-Dreyfus will appear on May 12.


'Mandalorian' star Pedro Pascal will also join that episode ahead of the release of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu.

The week will also feature Ina Garten, Billy Crystal, and 'Quiet Place' actor John Krasinski.


Special reunions and David Letterman's return




The Monday, May 11 episode will reunite Strike Force Five. Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, and John Oliver will appear together on television for the first time since their 2023 podcast. On Thursday, May 14, David Letterman will make his second appearance since passing the show to Colbert in 2015. Billie Eilish has reportedly taped a segment for the May 21 finale, while Barack Obama recently took part in the show's popular Questionert segment. For those unfamiliar, 'The Late Show' began in August 1993 with David Letterman as host after his departure from Late Night with David Letterman. Stephen Colbert succeeded him in September 2015.


Tom Hanks revisits World War II


Away from late-night television, Tom Hanks is preparing to launch World War II with Tom Hanks on HISTORY Channel. The 20-episode series premieres on May 25, with Hanks serving as narrator and executive producer.

In an exclusive clip shared with PEOPLE, the 'Forrest Gump' actor says, “In less than a month, a major European nation has been removed from the map,” and adds, “In the first 24 hours of the invasion, the Germans take out railroads, bridges and airfields. The destruction paves the way for their army to advance deep into Poland.”

Historian Jadwiga Biskupska explains, “Polish civilians experience modern war in an unbelievably horrifying way. They see people killed. It’s a nightmare.”
