TIFF announces retrospective on 'The Odyssey' director Christopher Nolan
The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is set to honour Oscar-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan with a major career retrospective this summer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
TIFF will screen 12 of Nolan's feature films at its Lightbox theatres during July and August as part of the "Christopher Nolan: Grand Designs" programme, celebrating the filmmaker's body of work and cinematic legacy.
The retrospective will open with Tenet on July 9 and conclude with a 70mm screening of Dunkirk on August 20, highlighting Nolan's signature large-format storytelling style and technical innovation.
The showcase will feature several of Nolan's most acclaimed films, including Oppenheimer, Interstellar, Inception, Memento, The Prestige and Insomnia, offering audiences a wide-ranging look at his evolution as a filmmaker.
Nolan's celebrated Batman trilogy -- Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises -- will also be screened during the event.
The retrospective also marks a full-circle moment for Nolan, who first brought his directorial debut 'Following' to Toronto in 1998 before the film gained recognition on the festival circuit, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
TIFF's Nolan retrospective coincides with the release of the filmmaker's next highly anticipated feature, The Odyssey, which is slated to hit theatres on July 17.
Based on Odyssey, the film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, the Greek king of Ithaca, who embarks on a perilous journey home following the Trojan War in an attempt to reunite with his wife Penelope.
The story follows Odysseus' decade-long journey, filled with divine interventions and dangerous encounters, while back home, Penelope and their son Telemachus struggle against aggressive suitors vying for the throne, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film also features an ensemble cast including Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Benny Safdie, Mia Goth, Elliot Page, Samantha Morton, Ryan Hurst and Travis Scott.
The Odyssey is scheduled for theatrical release on July 17.
