Rob Reiner's death case: Barry Markowitz recalls staying at filmmaker's house, where he met the accused son
TRIGGER WARNING: This article contains mention of death.
Rob Reiner, the legendary filmmaker, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their Los Angeles residence after being stabbed to death. As per the reports, their son, Nick, has been arrested on two counts of first-degree murder. While the heart-wrenching chaos unfolds, one of Reiner’s close friends recalled living at their home before the incident.
Cinematographer Barry Markowitz states that he might be one of the last people to see the couple and their family. Remembering the dinner and the stay, the artist said that Reiner invited him over. “They would say, ‘You’re staying here. You’re not going to no hotel. There’s no fridge, good toilet paper, no family,” he said, in a conversation with Page Six. He had joined the couple, as well as their kids, Nick and Romy, as their other child, Jake, was out of town. “[We would] scream at the TV, we watched a movie and a basketball game. Played with the dogs. Family time. One big love fest,” he said of Romy, adding that she was in and out of the house and usually came for dinner.
Talking about the child who suffered from substance abuse since he was a teenager, Nick, Markowitz said he looked great. “He was sitting and talking with the family. They eat dinner together, old school, and a lot of love, always a lot of love,” he claimed. Sharing that he didn’t notice anything strange, the cinematographer recalled that Nick helped out to take out garbage, washed the dishes, bring him something to drink, and watched the TV. “They were busy working and doing stuff,” he said, before adding, “The help was there, the secretaries were there, in and out of the house … business as usual.” Concluding the experience, Markowitz shared that he had a blast during the stay.
