Nicole Kidman recently shared an emotional message in thanks for the love and care her family received following her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman's, death. The actress, starring in the latest film Babygirl, had to miss some significant film events just to be with her family to mourn the loss of her mother.
The sad news of her mother's demise was announced by the film's director,
Halina Reijn at Venice Film Festival on September 7, 2024. According to Reijn, Kidman had to leave Venice all of a sudden due to a family emergency. Kidman also could not show up at Babygirl's North American premiere in Toronto on September 10, 2024.
On September 12, Kidman, 57-year-old, posted an Instagram message and thanked everybody with a great sense of heartiness. "My sister Antonia and the rest of the family are overwhelmed with so many acts of love and nice messages they receive," she said. According to Nicole Kidman, every message received, showing respect to her mother from a distance, was worth much more than people could imagine. She concluded her post by thanking all for respecting her privacy while spending some time healing with her family. The post contained three photos of her deceased mother; one was a solo portrait of a much-younger Janelle, while the two other photos were of family pictures when she and Kidman are with sister Antonia.
Many of Kidman's close friends and colleagues responded to the post with heartfelt messages. Lily Rabe and Rose Byrne also commented with heart emojis.
Lenny Kravitz wrote, "Blessed to have been in her presence. Rest in power, Janelle." Michelle Pfeiffer sent condolences, too: "I am so sorry for your loss Nicole. Sending blessings to you and your family." Naomi Watts shared an emotional message in which she spoke of love, and also hoped Kidman's mum is with her dad.
Reijn, who was giving what would have otherwise been Kidman's acceptance speech, read a statement from Kidman at Venice Film Festival for her role in Babygirl. She said she had flown into Venice but soon learned that her "beautiful, brave mother" had died. "Kidman, in shock, said, 'I have to get back to my family.'". She dedicated the award to her mother and said that all her life, Janelle shaped and guided her, adding she is grateful to mention her mother's name in front of the audience.
A representative for Kidman confirmed the sad news to People, saying the family was "beside themselves with grief" and would appreciate privacy regarding the matter. The actress had spoken to the Sydney Morning Herald back in 2020 about her mother's influence on her career: "Mum inspired me to act and had always wanted her daughters to have the opportunities she hadn't experienced." According to Kidman, her mother gave her determination in order for her to follow her dreams:.
