Love Again, Hypnotic, The Mother; Movies to look forward to this week

With the summer season already underway, it’s time to head to the nearest theatre to watch a special film in air conditioned comfort or if you’re feeling too lazy, watch a special offering on OTT to celebrate the Mother’s Day weekend today. A mushy romcom from Priyanka Chopra or Jennifer Lopez playing a feisty mother - several new films have been released recently.

New on OTT is Jennifer Lopez’s film, The Mother, in which she plays not a sweet protective mother, but a gun wielding assassin. She is ready to cross all limits to who fiercely protect her 12-year-old from two of her dangerous ex-lovers. It is the same daughter that she had to give up when she was born 12 years ago to protect the child and it is also the first time she gets to know her.

J.Lo’s better half Ben Affleck also has a new film out, titled Hypnotic. He plays an Austin origin cop who seeks a fortune teller played by Alice Braga to help him find his missing daughter. This film is a heady mix of science fiction drama and detective thriller tactics that blend action and crime into an incredible narrative. No one is really who they seem in this film.

We all remember Michael J.Fox as the lead character in the Back to the Future trilogy of films. But did you know about his struggles with Parkinsons? This is the story of the famed Blackberry, of its rise and fall. This movie narrates the story of what happens when two geniuses team up with a businessman to make what later made a mark in smartphone history.

While Love Again didn’t set the box office on fire abroad, in India it has fared a little better and has got some mixed reviews, which suggest that it will work for the Indian audiences. Priyanka’s acting has been described as a solid performance and the film is termed as charming, funny and sweet. Several reviewers have even termed it one of the best romcom movies in a long time.
